    Good night: Oh Cristobal

    The Lead

Old hockey adage: “Good things happen when you shoot the puck.”

    Oh look here’s Rick Nash.

God Cristobal Huet sucked tonight. Four goals against on 27 shots, including that one, which was not only embarrassing, but also the game-tying goal that sent it to overtime, and the Blackhawks dropped another incredibly winnable game, this time 4-3 in OT.

That makes four losses in a row for Chicago, and they’ve won only once in regulation in the last 12 games. Those footsteps they hear belong to the Vancouver Canucks, who are now just one point back of the fourth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

This is now officially Chicago’s longest stretch without a win since they fired Denis Savard four games into the season. Good to see them picking it up at the right time, and good to see Huet’s worked out so well for them.

    Elsewhere…

    Carolina 4, New Jersey 2

Erik Cole is working out pretty okay back in Raleigh, eh? The ‘Canes are 4-1-2 since he came back and he seems to have turned Eric Staal into a semi-useful player (no small feat!). Cole had another assist tonight, and Anton Babchuk had two goals and Cam Ward made 41 saves. All worked out okay for everyone. Except, of course, Kevin Weekes, who got his first start in what must be 15 years and gave up four goals. D’oh.

    Calgary 2, Dallas 1

Jamie Lundmark had a goal for Calgary tonight is playing his goddamn balls off lately. No joke. Jamie freakin’ Lundmark. Three goals and an assist in his last three games. Really. Jamie Lundmark. And well jeez, for the first time since the Thursday after the deadline, the Flames actually played a comprehensive hockey game and actually beat a playoff team. I couldn’t believe it. Team defense even! It was nuts. Also, Miikka Kiprusoff won his 200th career game. Suck it, Brodeur.

    Anaheim 4, Nashville 3 (OT)

I turned this game on just in time to see Ryan Getzlaf bitching to the refs from the bench at the end of regulation. The Ducks, it should be pointed out, were in the middle of a power play at the time. I don’t know why he was so upset. The replay showed nothing. But because he’s Ryan Getzlaf I guess he has the right to complain? I don’t know. Anyway Teemu Selanne scored on a nice redirection to win the game on that same power play. Great.

One Response to “Good night: Oh Cristobal”

    1. Hack Says:

As bad as huet was against columbus, let’s not forget how much campbell can piss down his leg in his own zone.

      Recap of final play;

Campbell gets pass in offensive zone, is physically and mentally unable to one time a puck, then coughs the puck up. He starts up the ice to help out, thinks no one is on him, dogs it a bit (end of a shift or not he has to get back when the game is on the line). Then he gets his stick slashed and is unable to make a play, leading to yet another loss.

I am definitely not a huet appologist, but seriously, how bad is campbell. How many times have we seen this “offensive defensman” have to settle down a puck that should be one-timed. He does it all the time on the power play. We have all seen it, kane passes to toews down low, toews fires a pass to campbell pinching on the backside, and what does campbell do…..either puts up a terribly weak one-timer, or holds on to the puck for a second and then shoots a wrist shot into the goalie’s chest.

Bottom line, Campbell sucks just as much as huet, and anyone who doesn’t believe me, watch the 3/7 game at boston in which campbell was a minus 3, and I believe he was ON the ice for one or two hawk goals!
